Built in the 17th century, Château du Lort (Bordeaux Supérieur) is nestled in a natural haven of tranquillity, surrounded by vines. Located just a few minutes from the heart of Bordeaux, the property's peaceful, rural setting could not be further from the bustle of city life.

THE HARMONY OF
TERROIR

The property's 45 hectares, 22 of which are planted with vines, are surrounded by woods, providing the perfect haven for natural life.

The harmony of a terroir shaped by the Castel family since 1984 stems from the perfect adaptation of grape varieties to the soil. This harmony is made manifest in the property's attractive wine, recognised for its structure and elegance.

CIRCULAR

The architecture of the renovated barrel cellar is a reference to the circular form of the property's historic courtyard.

SOPHISTICATED

The property is equipped with the latest technology, including 6 dual level thermoregulated stainless steel vats.

RESPONSIBLE

Energetically self-sustaining, the property is heated using pruned vine tendrils. Another gift from nature...

Respect

Since 2012, the property has been certified Terra Vitis, the reference for French winegrowers who respect nature, wine and the people who make it. In the vines, chemical herbicides have been abandoned in favour of cover cropping and soil tillage.

CHÂTEAU DU LORT

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot.

In keeping with the property's elegant character, the wines of Château du Lort are the embodiment of the refinement associated with the Bordeaux region.

On the nose, harmony reigns supreme, offering the perfect balance between the aromas of juicy dark berries with finely toasted notes and vanilla overtones.

Lovely length, developing, through a silky, dense tannic structure, an aromatic complexity whose elegance shows through with the force of the region's most distinguished wines.

VARIETIES

Château du Lort owes its distinctive character to a slightly unusual blend of grape varieties. Merlot brings fruit and balance, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides solid structural integrity. Replanted in 2014, the Petit Verdot provides depth of colour, alongside notes of red fruits, cocoa and spice.

BARREL AGING

With barrels supplied by five different coopers, Château du Lort is typically aged for around twelve months in 50% new oak. Work in the cellar allows for delicate wooded notes, taking nothing away from the boldness of the fruit.

IDENTITY

The result is a wine that embodies the property's elegant character. Toasted aromas from the barrel harmoniously supplement its attractive, fruit-forward profile. Silky smooth tannins provide an appealing texture.

VISIT

After negotiating the long, winding path that leads to the property, visitors are taken on a guided tour from the vine to the bottling, via the winery and the owner’s remarkable private cellar. Having uncovered the chateau’s treasures, all that remains is to savour the wine… a guided tasting concludes the visit.
